With many projects the model created doesn’t simply exist only out of pipe parts and valves. In most projects you will find several types of equipment, valves, steel structures and other required objects. AutoCAD Plant 3D is capable of creating a lot of these objects, but there are cases that AutoCAD Plant 3D just isn’t enough or too complex to create these models.
Autodesk recognized this issue and came-up with the idea of creating the so called Industry Collections, where the best solutions are gathered into one package, one license and interoperability between de solutions.
In the Product, Design and Manufacturing Collection you will find several solutions for building, steel work, etc. but also Autodesk’s bestselling parametric modeler for the mechanical market Autodesk Inventor. This parametric 3D solid modeler has state of the art functionalities and is easy to learn and use. The models created in Autodesk Inventor can be imported into AutoCAD Plant 3D, enabling you to use your designs across multiple disciplines.
The workflow to achieve this is part of the Product, Design and Manufacturing Collection and allows you to use Autodesk Inventor as your primary modeler for any type of component you need. For example, you have the need for a special type of valve, but this model isn’t available as 3D model. With Autodesk Inventor you only have to create a valve model ones and with functionalities like i-Part you can easily create the same valve model for all the nominal sizes that are required.
Or maybe you not only make designs, but you also produce the components yourself. Then make the design with Autodesk Inventor, import it into AutoCAD Plant 3D for the lay-out and use Autodesk Inventor again for production ready drawings of the component you designed.
